BAKLAVA BITES

In a previous episode I walked you through my favorite recipe for Baklava ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B275f49PBd4 ). It’s so unbelievably good, I hope you’ve had a chance to make it or at least taste it. In this episode I’m going to show you how I make my traditional recipe into an appetizer sized treat I call Baklava Bites. The event professional in me loves this recipe because these are perfect for passing around at parties or when you just want a smaller portion of Baklava.

The ingredients for this recipe are the same as regular Baklava. I don’t change how anything is made, only how it is assembled. Like regular baklava, the crucial first step of preparing this well is buttering the phyllo thoroughly. This ensures that it bakes up and gets nice and crispy in the oven. It should shatter in your mouth when you bite into it. Once it is butter completely you can press it into the muffin cups just like you see in the video.

Once the phyllo is ready, all you have to do is make the filling and add it to the phyllo cups and put it in the oven to bake. There is no layering, slicing, or using cloves like in the big tray Baklava recipe! Once the bites are baked drizzle them with the cool syrup before serving. Don’t use too much syrup because you don’t want the phyllo too saturated or it will break and fall apart. You really only need enough to make it sweet. I like to set these up on cake stands for display at parties. They look pretty – but they never last long!
