Greek 7-Layer Dip

Greek 7-Layer Dip is a riff on the popular Mexican version. I make it with seven layers of ingredients that are commonly found in Mediterranean cuisine. I love to make this for parties where people are grazing and chatting. I typically serve it with other dips, and perhaps a really great cheeseboard. It’s also an excellent choice for taking to a potluck because it travels easily and can be made in advanced.

The seven layers I use in this dip are hummus, tzatziki, cucumbers, red onion, tomato, feta, and olives. You are correct in thinking that this is a lot like a Greek salad but without the lettuce! Assembling it takes no time at all. I always use a glass dish because I like the way you can see the layers in the pie plate, it is a very pretty presentation.

For hearty dips like this I like to use pita chips or toasted baguette rounds for dipping. You want something that will hold up well and enable you to scoop up all the flavors in one bite. Regular or seasoned pita chips are my children’s favorite. I’ve also served it with the scoop shaped tortilla chips before and they work well.

I promise, this easy, fun dip is bound to become a new classic in your household. Put in on your list for entertaining this year!

Greek 7-Layer Dip

This is a fun dip to make for parties and informal gatherings. It travels well and is always a welcome addition to a potluck! You can change up the ingredients as you want. This can be made ahead of time and stored covered in the fridge until you’re ready to serve it.

Makes 1 large dip for a crowd

  • 1 pint Hummus

  • 1 pint Tzatziki

  • ½ cup Red onion, diced

  • 1 English Cucumber, diced

  • 1 pint of cherry Tomatoes, sliced thin

  • 8 oz Crumbled Feta

  • 8 oz Sliced Kalamata Olives

  • Pita chips for serving

  1. Spread the layers in a glass dish, like a 9-inch pie dish or similar, in even layers as follows: All the hummus, all the tzatziki, red onion, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, feta, and olives.

  2. Serve with lots of pita chips for dipping so everyone can get all the flavors in one bite!
