I like to film episodes of traditional recipes like this Classic Egg Salad because they're worth knowing. It's stood the test of time for a reason and is popular the world over! I think my first memory of egg salad is my mother making it for us when we were little. I also remember enjoying it from the deli near our house. It's always been a mainstay in my life.

These days I make my egg salad in the traditional deli-style. The eggs are hard boiled and flavored with mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. Then, I serve it on soft white bread or toasted white bread with some fresh chives and a sprinkle of paprika.

One of the things I love about this recipe is how beautifully it comes together every single time. There is no mystery to it; it's easy to master with only basic cooking skills. In fact, I've taught my older kids how to make it because it's one of those recipes that's good to know early on in life. The ingredients are inexpensive, it's healthy, and easy to make.

I hope you enjoy this Classic Egg Salad recipe. It will remind you of the salad you get at the deli, only better! Enjoy!

Classic Egg Salad

This is a classic richly flavored egg salad recipe. I love to have it in the fridge so my kids can make themselves a sandwich when they’re hungry!

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

  • 1 tbsp chives or green onions, finely chopped (optional)

  • Paprika, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place eggs in a pot and cover with cold water. Bring it to a boil, then cover and remove from heat. Let sit 10–12 minutes.

  2. Transfer eggs to ice water for 5 minutes. Peel the eggs and chop them into small pieces.

  3. In a bowl, combine the chopped eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, pepper, and chives until well combined.

  4. Serve immediately or chill for 30 minutes for best flavor.

  5. Sprinkle with paprika if desired.
