I’ve been in the catering and entertaining business for over 20 years so I know my way around a bar! At every event I throw I try to have a custom cocktail. Plus, I change the cocktail menu seasonally at the restaurants I manage. I find that during the holiday season people tend to gravitate towards sweet cocktails, and prefer fall flavors like apple and caramel. People also love bubbles any time of year! Knowing this, I developed this cocktail for the festive season.
Aperol is a very popular liquor that has a distinct orange color. The main flavor is bitter orange and a blend of herbs, which is why it works well with sweet apple cider and a light Prosecco. I love making this for friends because it is so visually appealing. I think it looks like a pretty fall sunset! Blended together, the three main ingredients create a drink that has a light, fruity flavor, subtle herbaceous notes, and dances on the palette thanks to the bubbles.
As you think of your holiday bar this season, I recommend considering this cocktail. You could also increase the quantities and fill a pitcher with it so it is self-serve. Just be sure to have plenty of ice available so people can fill their glasses before pouring their drink. This is a beverage that tastes much better on ic! Cheers!
